In the case of urgent care offices they may actually work any shift seven days a week, which allows more flexibility for those who wish to be home during the day with children or who are attending school. This is a vocation that lends itself well to being a first step on the road to a more advanced medical career, offering both experience and a paycheck while attending University.

Office support staff have ample opportunity to interact with patients, meet interesting new people and work among such elite professionals as doctors and registered nurses. Quite often it is the office assistant who decorates for holidays, plans office parties, plans treats or special events for patients, and keeps the office running smoothly. These indispensable healthcare workers are the foundation of most successful medical offices, clinics, and urgent care centers.

Duties may include interviewing patients, logging patient data into charts, appointment scheduling, ordering medical records from other agencies, following up on insurance issues, and medical subscription. Many medical assistants also work directly with patients taking vital signs, drawing blood, and doing other clinical duties as ordered and required by the supervising physician or nurse. There are those who work directly with the doctor on patient care and procedures as well.

Many of these professionals wear an attractive uniform provided by the medical office. Of course, this translates to less stress and worry about having to dress up every day to go to a corporate office. A busy doctor’s office is a comfortable work environment where days pass quickly by and meaningful work is accomplished. It is not unusual for the patient to have a conversation with the office assistant prior to any other contact with his doctor’s office. Therefore, good communication skills and an amiable personality are essential to any good physicians office manager or assistant.
